1) Please do not drive unless you absolutely HAVE to:

Please do not drive unless you absolutely HAVE to
Please do not drive unless you absolutely HAVE to.

Driving conditions in Hampshire? HORRENDOUS! Please do not drive unless you absolutely HAVE to, and this includes the motorways and primary routes. #SgtN

Highways teams @hantshighways are treating the roads continually – reloading, fitted with snow ploughs, and back out again. But there’s snow on top of ice now which is very difficult to deal with. https://t.co/GxqhlOqQ5X pic.twitter.com/S1FMGxU1VW

2) Cancellation of events:

Thornden Hall is closed till Monday. The two charity events this weekend have been postponed: the screening of Unrest: award-winning documentary about ME/CFs on Friday, and ‘An Evening with Paul Newton’ on Saturday.

Due to the weather conditions @ThorndenHall will be closed over the weekend. All events have been cancelled and will be rescheduled – watch the website for more information. #Unrest #paulnewton #staysafe

3) Chandler’s Ford Produce and Craft Market scheduled for 3rd of March has been cancelled.

The next Market is on Saturday 7th April, from 10am to 1pm: at The Age Concern Hall, Brownhill Road

4) Chandler’s Ford People are kind and supportive.

See many kind messages across the social media. These messages are from the Chandler’s Ford Friendly Neighbours page:

A few residents have also posted kind messages: If you are stuck locally, there is a spare bed for you!

kind neighbours

People have been sharing traffic update this afternoon: “on the School Lane industrial estate gridlock … Brickfield Lane is an ice rink and stranded cars mean you can’t get off School Lane on to Bournemouth road this way….”

There were helpful band of people helping cars at the Hocombe Road / Ashdown Drive junction this afternoon.

“Big up to the Bodycoats Road residents who helped salt the hill and help push vehicles up it “

Clare posted: “If any of the 3 people who pushed my stranded car up Pine Road today read this, please know how grateful I am. My 20 minute commute turned into an almost 2 hour journey from hell. There are some exceptionally kind Chandler’s Ford residents out there.”

Paul posted: “Hats off to the people stood at the end of Flexford Close throwing grit on to the road surface to enable drivers to get up the hill to the Hursley Road lights. 👍“

Leanne posted: “Does anyone know who the 3 lads who were at the Asda roundabout tonight around 6 pm? They were gritting and shovelling the road whilst giving cars a push. If anyone does know them please do let me know, I’m so grateful and it’s rare to come across such kind people.”

5) Keep warm. Most importantly, look after your neighbours

Brrr it’s cold out there! ❄️❄️❄️Make sure to keep safe and warm this week, and check on those who might need extra help https://t.co/arPX9S0ZBk pic.twitter.com/YLuvSYijPO

Don’t forget to check on older neighbours during this period of cold weather (and at other times) here’s some useful advice from @age_uk https://t.co/AXeh23oHbo

6) School closures: Schools will continue to close on Friday.

These include Toynbee, Thornden, Chandler’s Ford Infant School, Fryern School, Merdon, Barton Peveril College

Check school websites or Hampshire Emergency school closures

Here is a fun old video: a headteacher announced that ‘School is Close’ with Frozen snow day song

7) Skiing

Shadi posted: “Did anyone else see the man skiing down Merdon ave & Brownhill Rd today? “

8) Eastleigh Borough Council update:

Severe weather update – important information regarding council services during the current adverse weather conditions. Please note @PL_Eastleigh @PointEastleigh @theberrytheatre Lakeside & Itchen Valley Country Parks are all closed today. https://t.co/yBemebE2Mx

Places Leisure Eastleigh, The Point, Eastleigh, The Berry Theatre, Itchen Valley Country Park and Lakeside Country Park are all closed.

Council workers have gritted key community areas this morning including village and town centres, access to health centres and rest homes.
