Show You Care – Chandler’s Ford Fairtrade Autumn Market

October 19, 2015 By Janet Williams Leave a Comment

Councillor Louise Bloom from Hedge End recently visited Chandler’s Ford promoting Fairtrade.

Eastleigh is now officially a Fairtrade Borough, a status achieved on 7th May 2015. Councillor Louise Bloom, a strong Fairtrade promoter, said she hopes more companies would support Fairtrade in the Borough of Eastleigh.

The event on 10th October 2015 took place at St. Martin in the Wood Church on Queen’s Road.

Visitors enjoyed an evening of buying fairly traded crafts, jewellery, cards, and exquisite gifts, ethically produced from around the world.

We met the Fairtrade promoters in the local areas:

  • Tricia Urquhart (for Traidcraft)
  • Heather and Bob Dibb (for The Leprosy Mission Trading)
  • Sue Hunt (for Shop Equality in Eastleigh)
  • Sue Moll (for Asvanna Fairtrade)

Paul Smith, Youth Minister from the Parish Church of Chandler’s Ford, talked about a recent Slum Survivor activity that took place in Chandler’s Ford. A group of youngsters lived in a made-up “slum”, and they raised fund for the Christian Aid Refugee appeal and St. Anne’s hospital, Liuli, in Tanzania.

Do you support Fairtrade? How do you support Fairtrade in the community? Share your ideas with us.

Finally, there is a good reason why we all need to support Fairtrade (because Billy asks you to).
