Richard Stock: Fundraising for Ovacome

April 14, 2014 By Roger Clark 2 Comments

I’m pleased to tell you that Richard Stock completed the London Marathon in just over 4 hours yesterday.

This is a remarkable achievement for somebody who had never run a full marathon and indeed had never run over 20 miles!

Richard ran the marathon to raise money for Ovacome, in memory of my daughter, Dr. Lisa-Jayne Clark, from Chandler’s Ford.

My daughter Lisa-Jayne died of ovarian cancer one and a half years ago, aged just 40.

Although Richard had been preparing for the event since last summer he recently suffered an injury during training, which really set him back. Although weather-wise it was a very good day for a marathon, he suffered a fair amount of pain, particularly in the latter part of the race.

He told us afterwards that thinking of Lisa, and what she had endured, kept him going until he reached the finishing line.

The sponsorship Richard raised for the Ovacome Charity was a parallel remarkable achievement. Currently sponsorship stands at over £3500 and donations are still coming in. Please continue your support.

About Roger Clark

Another Chandler's Ford ex-IBMer who is just learning to say NO to volunteer opportunities. Enjoyed flying and sailing after retirement but now golf and wildlife photography in the ascendancy. I do feel responsible for putting something back into the Community or organisations that I have enjoyed. Hence I have an active interest in the Hiltingbury Community Organisation and the Hilt, Winchester Photographic Society, South Winchester Golf Club, Festival Medical Services, and a charity called Ovacome.
