Main Points:-

The closing date is not far away now – 18th September 2017 – so time to be writing and editing your pieces!

The theme is Where I Live.

There are two age categories – 8 to 11 and 12 to 15.

There is no entry fee.

Please make sure your poem has your name on it and it is accompanied with the entry form.

There are two prizes of £20 book tokens, one for each age category. (Prizes are sponsored by Goadsby Estate Agents).  Likewise there are two second prizes of a book, again one for each age category. There will also be five certificates issued.

Winning entries will be displayed at Chandler’s Ford Library.

Winning entries will be published on Chandler’s Ford Today and The Hilt newsletter.

There will be a presentation of prizes at Chandler’s Ford Library at 10.00 am on Saturday 23rd September.

Speakers

Chandler’s Ford Authors and Hampshire Libraries are delighted to announce children’s author Andrew Bill (aka Finian Black, author of The Final Raven) has agreed to help present prizes and give a reading. Robbie Sprague will also be reading the children’s poetry.

Where to Submit Entries

Entries can be taken into Chandler’s Ford Library.

Entries can also be dropped off at the Chandler’s Ford Authors stall at the Hiltingbury Extravaganza.

Entries can also be posted to 85 Lakewood Road, Chandler’s Ford.

Where You Live is a wide open theme but presumably may exclude where these two are living!

How to Obtain Entry Form

Entry forms for the poetry competition are available from Chandler’s Ford Library, the Hiltingbury Extravaganza website or the Hampshire Library website.

Other Information

Poems will not be returned so all entrants must make sure they keep a copy.

Poems will not be used for financial gain for anyone involved in the competition and copyright remains with the writer.

The Extravaganza itself will be on 17th September this year and Chandler’s Ford Authors will be running a stall there for the first time. Do drop in and see us.

About Allison Symes

I'm a published flash fiction and short story writer, as well as a blogger. My fiction work has appeared in anthologies from Cafelit and Bridge House Publishing.

My first flash fiction collection, From Light to Dark and Back Again, was published by Chapeltown Books in 2017.

My follow-up, Tripping the Flash Fantastic, was published by Chapeltown Books in 2020.

I adore the works of many authors but my favourites are Jane Austen, P.G. Wodehouse and Terry Pratchett.

I like to describe my fiction as fairytales with bite.

I also write for Writers' Narrative magazine and am one of their editors. I am a freelance editor separately and have had many short stories published online and in anthologies.
