Meet June Lai, who reached the summit of Mount Kilimanjaro last week. This morning, June returned to England safely at 7.00am.
June Lai reached the summit of Mount Kilimanjaro on the 23rd of January. She raised nearly £6,000 for Macmillan Cancer Support.
June Lai came to England when she was 8 years old from Hong Kong. She was brought up in Winchester and is an active member of Chinese Association of Southampton.
Hike to the sky: Kilimanjaro Hiking Challenge 2014
There were 35 participants, and amazingly, almost all of the climbers reached the summit of Mount Kilimanjaro, including June.
June did a victory dance in memory of her 大舅父 (Uncle Danny) at the summit.
Read June’s fundraising page on June Lai – JustGiving:
“This eight-day climb will be a huge personal challenge for me as I have never climbed so high, let alone do this while “enjoying” the +40C to -20C temperatures, 2-man tents, with no showers (at all!!) and the inevitability of altitude sickness from being 6km above sea level.”
“As I fund-raise, train and prepare for this challenge between now and Jan 2014, I will be thinking of all those who have battled, who are battling, and who will battle cancer.”
“When I get to the summit, I will make sure I do a victory dance in memory of my 大舅父 (Uncle Danny) who fought a long battle with nasopharyngeal carcinoma (cancer of the nose, mouth and throat [鼻咽癌]) in Hong Kong, where sadly there is no Macmillan.”
