Marie Curie has been shortlisted to be Charity of the Year by Sainsbury’s Eastleigh.
As Chairman of Eastleigh and Chandler’s Ford Fundraising Group for Marie Curie, I hope you could support us.
I recently made a presentation to their staff and we are on their short list of 3.
If successful we would receive the benefit of all charity fundraising at the store for the next 12 months.
The online vote will be made by staff and customers. The closing date is 28th June 2015.
If you think you would like to support our bid please go to Sainsbury’s Local Charity.
Thank you. I will let you know if we are successful.
What is Marie Curie all about?
Marie Curie provides care and support for more than 40,000 people living with a terminal illness and their families in the UK each year.
Marie Curie nurses work night and day, in people’s homes across the UK, providing hands-on care and vital emotional support. Marie Curie hospices offer specialist round-the-clock care.
Marie Curie also helps people throughout their illness by giving practical information, support from trained volunteers and being there when someone wants to talk.
Facing terminal illnesses
If ever faced with a terminal illness, most of us would choose to die peacefully, in our own homes, surrounded by the people who mean the most to us. Marie Curie Nurses make this possible. There are nearly 2,000 Marie Curie Nurses working across the UK, caring for people with a terminal illness in their own homes.
Last year, Marie Curie provided more than 1.3 million hours of nursing to 31,558 people, as well as supporting their families at an incredibly difficult time.
Marie Curie nurses: bring comfort to families
Here is what a family member of a patient said after having had care from Marie Curie Nurse at home:
“Mum had died in her sleep, as she wanted. That would not have been possible without the Marie Curie Nurses. Amazing people. Without them, I don’t think my dad would have been able to manage. Mum and Dad had been together since they were 16 – they were childhood sweethearts.”
“Having Marie Curie Nurses meant that Dad could help give Mum the death she wanted and it brought comfort to him to know that he didn’t have anything to reproach himself for – he hadn’t let her down.”
