March can be a busy time in the garden, as Spring begins you will notice the busy activity of bird in your garden building their nests. To help them out tie up bunches of tiny twigs, moss and stringy plant material around your garden.

Protect blossoms of apricots, peaches and nectarines from late frosts by covering with fleece. Hardy annuals such as Calendula, Cornflower, Larkspur, Nigella, Poached egg plant (Limnanthes) and Californian poppies can be sown directly at the end of the month.
Sow lettuce, rocket, carrots, peas and early potatoes outside when the soil has warmed up. Sow parsnip now. As they are erratic germinators, sow them in clusters of 3 or 4 seeds, 15cm apart. Sow cucumbers, melons and tomatoes inside.
