Off Vancouver Island last Monday, we saw a Killer Whale with baby. It went on to take a seal – this type of Orca is a mammal (rather than fish) eating one. Baby seals and dolphins are its main food.
Oddly enough an adult seal on seeing an Orca will take to land. Baby seals aren’t that smart and they take to the water when Orca danger approaches.
The Killers are very intelligent and maintain a sustainable food stock by just taking the one seal before moving on.
As you can see they get very close to the Island. At one point there were residents lining up and cheering the Whales. They are magnificent creatures.
