Easy Bus Trip to Southampton General Hospital

April 23, 2014 By Janet Williams 1 Comment

We took the bus from Chandler’s Ford to Southampton General Hospital by bus.

One adult and one child return tickets totalled £9.70.

In this previous post, kind reader GeorgeOnToast told me exactly what to do. I followed his advice and our trip was a success.

Bluestar Bus

It was a shame that the information I received from Bluestar when I rang up for advice was incorrect.

U6H

How to get to Southampton General Hospital by bus? From Chandler’s Ford Central Precinct, get on Bluestar 1, and get off after the Winchester Road roundabout on Basset Avenue. Cross the road and change for U6H.

Whenever possible, my husband would drop us off at the hospital and we took the bus home.

When my child was very small and needed medical treatment, we were lucky enough to get free transport arranged by the hospital. It was a great bonus as I didn’t have to worry about getting to and back from the hospital during very anxious time.

Bassett Cresent

I remember some drivers’ cars were clean and polished as they took great pride in giving their patients a free ride. One driver let us choose from his vast collection of Disney songs in his squeaky clean and perfumed car. Some drivers were very quiet and I did get a bit worried sometimes. Occasionally we were taken in by an ambulance – it often took me by surprise as I was only expecting a family car. I later realised that the ambulance also provided the patient transport service (PTS).

@cfordtoday Glad it all went ok!

I received helpful tweets from @MrPaulBrewer:

@cfordtoday @GeorgeOnToast remember also the No. 46 bus (velvet bus) takes you direct to the general from Chandlers Ford & returns also.

@cfordtoday @GeorgeOnToast correction: stagecoach operate this bus! (Great website by the way – well done!)
