Good news! The Eastleigh Games 2012 Legacy Group has been nominated for the Waitrose Community Matters Scheme in Chandler’s Ford in January 2015.
Please make sure you pop into Waitrose Chandler’s Ford in January and actively consider putting your green tokens into our box.
Funds raised from this scheme will help the group in its endeavours to put on the Community Games event offering inclusive taster sports sessions through community volunteering at its best.
What is the Eastleigh Games 2012 Legacy Group?
For those unfamiliar with the Eastleigh Games 2012 Legacy Group, its inception arose from the goodwill and enthusiasm in conjunction with the much used phrase ‘legacy’ of the London 2012 Olympic Games.
Borough of Eastleigh based residents who volunteered as Ambassadors, Games Makers, torch bearers, doctors, drivers and sports coaches formed a group to keep the goodwill and volunteering ethos alive well after 2012.
By forming an information sharing resource, highlighting Borough-wide volunteering opportunities, as well as an inclusive social network, encouraging skill sharing and culminating in a volunteer led ‘Community Games’ – it is a free community event to encourage participation in grass roots local sports and arts, where everyone can have a go.
Third Community Games on 25th July 2015
The group is well into the planning of the third Community Games to take place on 25th July 2015 Saturday, close to the anniversary of London 2012 games, based at the Pavilion on the Park on Kingfisher Road in Eastleigh, which is also home to Cycles4all.
New members are warmly welcomed.
You may not have actively participated as a volunteer yourself in the 2012 Games or the subsequent Commonwealth Games, Glasgow, but may have been inspired by the community spirit that flourished and it is this energy that the group seeks to nurture and benefit all residents within the Borough of Eastleigh.
And finally a quote from one of our members which says it all in a nutshell:
“Here’s to plenty of volunteer fun in 2015.”
