Inspired by the London 2012 Games, Eastleigh community will be holding the Eastleigh Community Games for Eastleigh residents this summer.
You’re welcome to try out new sports and have fun.
Dates: Saturday 27 July, 12pm to 4pm
Taster activities include archery, boccia, inclusive cycling, judo, sitting volleyball, volleyball, and wheelchair rugby. All activities will be delivered by local clubs.
Other fun activities include a bouncy castle, face painting, wacky games and races.
Location: The Toynbee School, Bodycoats Road, Chandler’s Ford, SO53 2PL.
The event is organised by The Eastleigh Games 2012 Legacy Group, to celebrate the exciting launch of Hampshire’s first boccia club to be based in Eastleigh.
According to GB Boccia Federation, Boccia (pronounced ‘Bot-cha’) is a Paralympic sport introduced in 1984 and is unique to the Paralympic games. Athletes throw, kick or use a ramp to propel a ball onto the court with the aim of getting closest to a ‘jack’ ball.
The sport is designed specifically for athletes with a disability affecting locomotor function and is played indoors on a court similar in size to a badminton court.
The organisers are also running an arts competition with the theme of ‘My Memories of London 2012’.
Entries will be displayed and judged at the event. Prizes include a signed London 2012 t-shirt from Paralympic Gold Medallist, David Smith. Entries must be A4 in size, and can be in any media.
Advanced entries can be sent to ‘My Memories of London 2012’, Pavilion on the Park, Kingfisher Road, Eastleigh, SO50 9LH.
