Walking in Flexford Wood on a Foggy Day

January 1, 2017 By Janet Williams 5 Comments

This is a blog post about…fog.

We went for a walk in the wood yesterday afternoon, and saw Chandler’s Ford through fog.

We walked through Flexford Wood, then through to Valley Park.

The birds were chirping, and dogs could be heard barking from the distance.

I used my humble Canon S95 to record a few minutes the beauty of our woods.

Folow the links and see my short videos on Vimeo, if you can’t see the videos on this page.

A question: Why did the fog appear only on the ground, not higher up in the air? Could someone explain this to me.

See Metllik: Fog and Mist how they are formed for an explanation of ground fog.

Thanks Bob for the link. Metlink is a very informative site about weather. Now I’ve learnt something new about ground fog.

Wow Janet, you are a film director as well as a meteorologist. Is there no end to your talents?
There is something poignant about these dormant winter landscapes.

Just use my normal basic Canon S95 (now considered a very old camera). Just click, and move the lens from left to right. Before doing that, I asked a few people around me not to speak. Yes, my type of ‘filming’.

    Hi Janet et al …
Thanks for your post … interesting and it brought back memories … as a nipper in Chandler’s Ford I remember walking with my mother, somewhere off Castle Lane, in similar conditions and we espied a ‘gathering’ of legs and feet, but nothing attached to them, or so it seemed … yes, they were cows, but their bodies were hidden in the mist … have never forgotton that eerie sight !
