I received this exciting message from South West Trains in my mailbox.
“Enjoy a £10 Day Return any Saturday or any Sunday from 18 January to 16 March – and kids go for £5! ”
For more information, please visit the Winter Smiles – South West Trains site.
Last April I wrote about a similar offer by South West Trains.
If you plan to watch Lion Dance to celebrate the Chinese New Year in London in February, this offer would be great.
I love travelling by train. My teaching job takes me to Reading, Oxford and Milton Keynes quite often. Last Christmas, I was pleasantly surprised at the Reading train station, as another train operator, the First Great Western provided a brilliant Wrapping Station. You could get your Christmas gifts wrapped up for free. I also enjoyed complimentary hot mulled wine and a mince pie at the Wrapping Station.
In Chandler’s Ford, the waiting area in our own little cozy train station oozes friendliness. It has fresh plants; volunteers sell tea and coffee; you can buy hand-made cards. You can also buy second-hand books, CDs, and DVDs near the ticket office.
The donation goes towards the Three Rivers Community Rail Partnership.
The local Breeze Women Bike Ride also starts their journey from Chandler’s Ford train station.
On the 13th of October in 2013, Chandler’s Ford celebrated the 10th anniversary of the re-opening of Chandler’s Ford Train Station, which brought alive fond memories to many people.
For train enthusiasts, the Chandler’s Ford Phoenix on the day of the station re-opening on Sunday 19 October 2003 was hauled by LNER A4 Class 4-6-2 no 60009 Union of South Africa.
Do you travel by train? What is your memory?
