Where can you find this notice in Chandler’s Ford?
S59 Anti-social Behaviour, Crime and Policing Act 2014
‘It’s an offence to continue to drink alcohol when asked not to do so by a Police Officer …. Failure to comply may lead to arrest and a fine upon conviction.’
2) Do you recognise this place and the name of the shop?
3) Why is there a NatWest vehicle outside the Chandler’s Ford Methodist Church? Do you know the day and time the van is there on a weekly basis?
Put your answers in the comment below. Thank you.

I don’t know the answers but find the pictures very interesting!
1. I guess the notice is by one of the recreation grounds.
2. I think I do know where photo 2 was taken. I recognise the tree! Don’t know what shop though.
3. I presume this is a mobile bank. I had no idea. What a good idea.

Mary,
Thanks for your answers.
1) I found the notice somewhere else (in a very obvious place), not by the receation ground. Perhaps there is more than one sign like that in Chandler’s Ford!
2) I’ll give the answer later.
3) Yes indeed it’s NatWest’s weekly mobile bank in Chandler’s Ford.
I’ll give more details later as more people may want to continue guessing!
I’m glad you like these photos.

Answers:
Mary – the notice is found at the Fryern Arcade.
The NatWest mobile bank is outside the Methodist Church, every Wednesday, from 1.30pm to 3pm.

Could photo No 2 be the old Mew Langton off licence in Bournemouth Rd next to the original school that Selwoods took over as their offices and yard , the Ford Zephyr / Zodiac dates it later though .
Janet Williams says
Roger,
You could be right. But according to Eastleigh History, the answer is: The Oaks off licence, Chandlers Ford, 1975
Do you agree?
Debby Bartlett says
It was an off-licence but I can’t remember its name and yes that was the old school building possibly why the next road is called School Lane. The photo was taken in Bournemouth Road looking towards what is now Selwood.
On reflection the off-licence could have been called The Oaks due to the Oak Tree growing near by!

Thanks Debby for your comment.
It’s great to learn a bit more about our local history. Thank you for sharing your memories.
I took this photo a while back. The area now looks like this.

Janet,
Yes I think it was called The Oaks , Mew Langtons was the brewery I imagine who owned it they were an Isle of Wight brewer I think now long gone , the oak tree is still there I think, but off licence long gone .

Hi Janet et al …
Re No:2
Both Answers are correct – Mew Langton’s were the Brewery that ‘owned’ the off-licence and ‘The Oaks’ was the name of the actual off-licence (possibly because of the oak tree(s) at the front of the building) … for many years it was run by Hugh Packman … for those interested here is the link to the ‘wiki’ site re Newport I.O.W. brewers

Keep them coming please Janet and keep smiling all …
