We hear a lot about random acts of kindness and how little things can make a big difference to people. With this in mind, whilst shopping in Winchester and Asda today (1 January), I made a point of thanking the shop assistants who served me, for being at work today, a public holiday – a day when I and many others are fortunate to be off work and furthermore expect to find the shops open.
I don’t think they always have a choice about which days they work or get paid extra, so let’s not take them for granted.
I also used the bus, my bin got emptied and I know all the emergency services would have been there if needed. Good to show our appreciation!

I was also feeling thankful as my bin got emptied this morning. (Last year I got caught out and quickly rushed to get my bin out, still in my pyjamas, when I heard the van coming.) I had thought they would start on the 3rd. Some people might think that there is no need to be thankful for the services we receive as ‘we pay the Council Tax’, ‘we pay the NI’…
I’m also thankful that my gym stayed open (though with reduced hours) during the holiday, so I didn’t have to break from my exercise routine.
