Play Tennis for Free – Thornden Tennis Club

May 30, 2014 By Helen Rogers Leave a Comment

Thornden Tennis Club will be holding an LTA event called the Great British Tennis Weekend. It will run from 1pm till 4pm on the 29th of June (Sunday).

The Play Tennis For Free event intends to encourage children, adults and families to give tennis a try. It is hoped that we will raise the profile of our fantastic club.

People are able to book a 30-minute slot to play tennis or try coaching and cardio sessions. You can find out more details here on Great British Tennis Weekend.

There will be a ball machine on court 1 for everyone to have and go, and court 2 will be our show court for demonstrations and exhibition matches.

This FREE to attend family fun-day will include a prize raffle, children’s games, strawberries & cream, cakes and an ice cream van.

Also in attendance will be the Winchester and Chandler’s Ford MP Steve Brine and former Thornden pupil / tennis club player come TV celebrity Dan Lobb.

Dan still keeps in touch with some members. He played professionally for three years and he climbed to 18th in the British ranking in 1997.

Dan Lobb later went on presenting on Sky Sports, ITV Daybreak and being a contestant on Strictly Come Dancing. We hope to get him on court hitting some balls with coach Paul and the juniors.
