Meet Jane: Dr Yangzhou From China

January 31, 2014 By Janet Williams 1 Comment

Update on October 2014: The Chinese Medical Centre has moved from the Mall to 2 Bournemouth Road, Chandler’s Ford, SO53 3DB.

This afternoon, I braved the rain and popped in to see my friend Jane in her Dr Yangzhou Chinese Medical Center in The Mall in Chandler’s Ford, to wish her a very prosperous Chinese New Year.

I wore a pinky red top, but Jane was wearing a more cheerful bright red top signifying the joy of the Chinese New Year.

Jane and her family has been living in Chandler’s Ford for eight years. Today she is taking us back to her hometown, Yangzhou of China.

Jane’s Chinese name is Weiwei Zhou. She and her family were attracted by good schools in Chandler’s Ford, so they decided to move here eight years ago.

Jane, who are you and what do you do?

“I am an acupuncturist, a member of the Chinese Medical Institute and Register in London. I studied full time for 5 years and I gained a Bachelor’s Degree in Medicine. Before I came to England, I had practised both Western & Traditional Chinese Medicine for over 10 years in China.”

Jane, why do you call your Chinese medical centre Yangzhou?

“I used to work in a large hospital in Yangzhou for many years, therefore I named my medical centre in Chandler’s Ford Dr Yangzhou.”

Tell us something about your hometown.

“I grew up in Yangzhou city in central Jiangsu province, close to the Yangtze River, and it is only 3 hours away by car from Shanghai. Yangzhou is a beautiful city, rich in cultures and characters.”

What is your plan for the Chinese New Year?

“I’ll have a big party with my Chinese friends. We’ll enjoy home-made traditional Chinese dishes together.”

What do you do during your spare time?

“I support our Chinese community in Southampton and take part in community events. My son is only 5 years old, and I also go to his school to share stories about the Chinese culture.”

Do you miss home, Jane?

“I miss my hometown very much, especially my parents.”

Chinese Medical Centre has now moved to Bournmouth Road, Chandler's Ford.
