Have your Say by 18th August: Proposal to Refurbish the Pavilion in Hiltingbury Recreation Ground

August 9, 2017 By Janet Williams 5 Comments

There has been a heated debate recently in the Chandler’s Ford community about the proposal to refurbish the Pavilion situated in Hiltingbury Recreation ground.

What’s the proposal about? According to Chandler’s Ford Parish Council, the proposal is about the “Partial demolition, refurbishment and extension to existing sports pavilion, including provision of additional car parking facilities and construction of temporary car park.”

Here is the Planning Application Detail. (Planning Application: F/17/80958)

The consultation period ends on the 18th of August, 2017. Follow the link above to leave your comment to Eastleigh Borough Council regarding your views.

About the proposal to refurbish the Pavilion

On the Facebook page of Chandler’s Ford Friendly Neighbours, local residents have been sharing their views about the proposal. (Note: To read the messages, you need to join the closed group.)

Dave Oakley wrote in the page: “Part of the proposal is to build a temporary 40 space car park off Hiltingbury Road adjacent to the skate park, and the entrance will be where the double gates are now opposite Ashdown House.

My view is that a car park situated here will just cause chaos to an already busy traffic and pedestrian area and I have voiced my concerns to the council.”

Some residents welcome this proposal, but some are concerned about the impact it may cause to the community, in terms of traffic, and the loss of green space.

I hope more local residents could respond to this proposal before the consultation period ends on the 18th of August, 2017.

I wish to express my very strong objection to the above application and the fact that I have not received official notification of the planning application despite my close proximity to the site. I feel there is adequate provision already provided in The Hilt and with the new premises at Fleming Park for sports and general activities for this area. The recreation ground is well used for outdoor sports activities for all ages, dog walking and for play and it would be a great shame to reduce its size by covering it in car parking. All that is required is for the existing pavilion to be refurbished.

      Hi Joan,

Many thanks for your feedback. The consultation period ended on the 18th of August (yesterday), but I hope you contact EBC to voice your concern.

Like you I didn’t receive official notification of the planning application.

          Joan,

I just tried the EBC website and found the ‘comment’ section still opens. Click this: Planning Application Detail (click ‘comment’ on the top right). (However the official consultation has ended, so I’m not sure if your comment will be accepted.)

Or contact Eastleigh Borough Council directly: Eastleigh Borough Council, Eastleigh House, Upper Market Street, Eastleigh, SO50 9YN.
          Telephone: 023 8068 8068, Fax: 023 8064 3952, Text: 07797 877001.

So I would suggest you write your feedback and submit online.
