Dead head roses and bedding plants regularly to prolong flowering.
Keep containers watered and fed to ensure continued good performance.
Cut back hardy geraniums to ground level after they have had their first flush of flowers to encourage new foliage and more flowers later in the year. Divide congested clumps of bearded iris after flowering. Prune whippy summer growth of Wisteria to within 5/6 buds of the main stem. Make sure they are well watered in July and August because this is when they set their flower buds.
If we have not had any rain raise the height of the mower blade to keep it greener for longer.
Cut down summer fruiting raspberry canes after they have fruited and tie in the new canes that will fruit next year. After strawberry plants have finished fruiting, cut off all the leaves. They are of little use and can become diseased. The best time to plant new strawberry plants is in summer, before the end of July, if planted later they will only give a meagre crop the following year. Keep tomatoes well watered to prevent blossom end rot.
