Outside West Quay shopping centre in Southampton, in the hustle and bustle of the city life, 7 children were playing uplifting army tunes and remembrance tunes last weekend.
They smiled. They played with energy. It was beautiful.
They played the bass drum and side drum, bugle, cymbal and bell lyre.
These children are members from Dolphin Marching Band, and they came all the way from Poole.

Their band master Chris Godber told me that the band has been running for 17 years. Now there’re 30 children in the band, aged between 8 and 16.
He told me the young musicians play all music from memory.

The band takes part in carnivals, fetes and fundraising events to keep the band running.
Every year the band would take part in Jersey Battle of Flowers and Summer camp (August) for 7 days.
