Where is this roundabout in Chandler’s Ford? What’s the building to the right?
What’s the parking situation in this area? What’s around this roundabout?
This is a photo from the 1950s. Do you recognise this place? Have a guess.
Well – it seems before selfies became trendy, people in the older days also went to great lengths to have their photographs taken.
This old shop – some of you might remember it. Where was it and what has the area now become?
Put your answers in the comment below. Thank you.
Credit: Many thanks for Doug Clews (now in Australia) for supplying us with two precious old photos of Chandler’s Ford.

#1 is at the bottom of Station Road (?) on the south side of Chandler’s Ford station. IIRC parking is free, but there are few spaces. The building to the right is Centre Stage Youth Theatre.
No idea about #2 or #3
Janet Williams says
Chippy,
You’re right about the station.
The building is The Arch.
Have you noticed the sculpture and the celebration garden?
Mike Sedgwick says
Chippy’s right I think.
Aaaaah Bisto. I used to eat it raw as a child but it was more palatable then.

The roundabout Station Rd or Station Lane ? Don’t think its Station Lane even the “new” Station Lane don’t recognise the houses going up looks too wide.
No 2 is it at the lakes think there used to be a bridge up there
Doug Clews says
Hi Roger … re No.2 … there may well have been another bridge at Hiltingbury Lake apart from the wooden one featured in most photos of the Lake, but I am not aware of one, however, my picture is not at the Lake I’m afraid … keep trying … Doug
Mary says
Is No 2 a bridge over the railway?
Doug Clews says
Sorry Mary, afraid not …

Well, it’s almost time for Guessing Game 15, so I must put you all out of your misery and reveal the locations of No.2 and No.3 …
Both photos were taken about 1950 … Some might say I have cheated a little with No.2, because it was taken in Cranbury Park, just off a track that ran the full length of Otterbourne Hill, ending near the Church … technically, that section is now probably classified as Otterbourne … looking at Google Earth, the track still seems to be there, but not sure whether the bridge is … too many trees to see … perhaps a kind keen walker amongst you might check one day and report back …
No.3 is the store that used to be in Oakmount Road, run by, at that time, Mr & Mrs Wyatt. …the name Wyatt can just be made out above the shop front … Waitrose occupies the site today …
Keep smiling …

For those who might be curious, the ‘Odd-Bods’ on the bridge, by the way, are, left to right,
Gillian Prentice, Ann Wyatt, Doug Clews, Jean Cole, Pamela Prentice.
