This photograph was taken in 1949 of my Grandad’s brother, Sid. It is outside 25 Purkess Close, off Brownhill Road in Chandler’s Ford.
My Nan and Grandad (Ivy and Charles Kenchington) bought the bungalow in 1936 for approx £400! I have very happy memories of playing at their house, which was white with blue guttering and paintwork.
All the back gardens on the left are layered and very steep. They used to know everyone in the close and of course the bungalows were built before everyone had cars so there were no driveways.
My Nan is now 102, living in a care home in Winchester. We are currently researching our family tree.

Love that car. What make was it? My great uncle had one similar and the windscreen went yellow with age. He seemed to be of the opinion that one should keep one wheel on each side of the white line in the middle of the road. You could travel a long distance like that in those far off days.
£400 for a house. No doubt that was considered reckless at the time. Now worth nearly 500 times as much.
