This photograph was taken in 1949 of my Grandad’s brother, Sid. It is outside 25 Purkess Close, off Brownhill Road in Chandler’s Ford.
My Nan and Grandad (Ivy and Charles Kenchington) bought the bungalow in 1936 for approx £400! I have very happy memories of playing at their house, which was white with blue guttering and paintwork.
All the back gardens on the left are layered and very steep. They used to know everyone in the close and of course the bungalows were built before everyone had cars so there were no driveways.
My Nan is now 102, living in a care home in Winchester. We are currently researching our family tree.
Note: Tracy Dale from Hiltingbury is an experienced dressmaker
and seamstress. She founded Five Past Seven Tailoring and Alterations in 2012 after working in Auckland and Sydney. Tracy grew up in Chandler’s Ford.
