Beautiful Singing By Thornden School Year 11 Ensemble

December 23, 2013 By Janet Williams 1 Comment

Christmas is a time of celebration, joy and reflection.

We also enjoy the company of our family and friends. Today, my friend shares some beautiful music with me, sung by our talented young people in Chandler’s Ford.

Let’s appreciate two Christian songs “Do You Hear What I Hear?” and Pie Jesu by Thornden School’s Year 11 Ensemble. Their voices are angelic — simply beautiful.

Angelic voices from Thornden Year 11 girls.

The Thornden singers (from left to right) are: Rachel Moore, Hattie Hayse, Alex Mellors, Ella Williams, Kenya Johnson, Elise Jones, and Ellie Deane, with Mrs Bekker as their conductor. The music video was uploaded by Andrew Dixon.

“Do You Hear What I Hear?”:

“Do You Hear What I Hear?” is a Christmas song written in October 1962, with lyrics by Noël Regney and music by Gloria Shayne Baker.

Said the night wind to the little lamb
Do you see what I see
Way up in the sky little lamb
Do you see what I see
A star, a star
Dancing in the night
With a tail as big as a kite
With a tail as big as a kite

Said the little lamb to the shepherd boy
Do you hear what I hear
(do you hear what I hear)
Ringing through the sky shepherd boy
Do you hear what I hear
(do hear what I hear)
A song, a song
High above the trees
With a voice as big as the sea
With a voice as big as the sea

Said the shepherd boy to the mighty king
Do you know what I know
(do you know what I know)
In your palace warm mighty king
Do you know what I know
(do you know what I know)
A child, a child
Shivers in the cold
Let us bring him silver and gold
Let us bring him silver and gold

Said the king to the people everywhere
Listen to what I say
( Listen to what I say)
Pray for peace people everywhere
Listen to what I say
(listen to what I say)
The child, the child
Sleeping in the night
He will bring us goodness and light
He will bring us goodness and light

He will bring us goodness and light

“Pie Jesu” (from Requiem) Latin Lyrics:

Pie Jesu, pie Jesu, pie Jesu, pie Jesu
Qui tollis peccata mundi
Dona eis requiem, dona eis requiem
Pie Jesu, pie Jesu, pie Jesu, pie Jesu
Qui tollis peccata mundi
Dona eis requiem, dona eis requiem
Agnus Dei, Agnus Dei, Agnus Dei, Agnus Dei
Qui tollis peccata mundi
Dona eis requiem, dona eis requiem
Sempiternam

Requiem
