Just as traffic gets back to normal after this weekend’s motorway closure, we have more roadworks to cope with. This time it’s more local, but the good news is that, like Radio Luxembourg, they only come out at night.
Parts of Leigh Road will be closed for resurfacing between 8:00 pm and 6:00 am from 1st to 19th October (weather permitting).
The first phase (1st to 12th October) will be between Oakmount Road and Passfield Avenue. Junction 13 of the M3 will be closed and traffic coming down the M3 will be advised to leave at Junction 12. There will be a diversion from Junction 14, via Bassett Green Road, Stoneham Way, Wide Lane, Southampton Road, Twyford Road, Allbrook Way, Winchester Road and Bournemouth Road. A long way round – but not as long as the M27 diversion at the weekend!
The second phase (15th to 19th October) will be between the zebra crossing near Causton Gardens and the traffic lights by The Point, with a diversion via Woodside Avenue and Twyford Road.
Hopefully the fact that this work is being carried out at night will mean that travel disruption is minimised – and our knowledge of local roads should allow us to find shorter diversion routes than the official ones.
